Reference Architecture for the National Forest Information System
The team of FirstMark Technologies Ltd., Galdos Systems Inc., and
Swiftsure Spatial Systems Inc. is pleased to submit this report
covering the Technical Reference Architecture for the Canadian
Council of Forest Ministers' National Forest Information System, a
national infrastructure for forest information.
The main objective of the Technical Reference Architecture is to
describe the logical components of NFIS and the standards on which
these components and their interfaces are based.
The Reference Architecture was developed on the results of NFIS
workshops held on the NFIS in British Columbia, Ontario and
Newfoundland under the auspices of the Canadian Forest Service, and
with the participation of forestry, environment and other staff from
the Provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Newfoundland.
This Reference Architecture is consistent with the NFIS vision as
described in the document, A Technical Vision for the National Forest
Information System. The notion of a technical architecture is
defined in the C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers,
Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) Architecture
Framework that was adopted as the global architecture framework
for the NFIS project.
