The Metadata tool gives you the option to perform three tasks:
- Create Single Metadata File
When valid data is entered into a template file, a valid metadata
file will be returned to the user. This file can be saved to
an appropriate location for use when submitting your
NFI plot data.
- Create Batch Templates
A batch template is an incomplete metadata file. This template can be
uploaded and used to pre-populate data fields in the metadata forms,
reducing data entry effort when creating metadata files that share
some data values. Once a batch template has been created and uploaded, an
associated batch file will be generated.
- Process Batch Templates
Multiple metadata files can be created using a batch template and a
batch file. Batch creation will eliminate the need for users to fill
out multiple text files to create multiple metadata files.
Users are encouraged to view the NFI Metadata tool overview
(presented as a Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation), and the
batch tutorial.
The Metadata
Specifications Document should be read before using the Metadata Tool.
The NFI Metadata Tool was a joint development between NFIS and the National
Afforestation Inventory program.
