NFIS Access has four primary functions:
- Provides a graphical interface which leverages the core functionality of DACS.
- Enables users to create an NFIS User account with associated contact information and application-specific role information.
- Allows users to manage their account (such as modify account information, retrieve missing passwords, etc.).
- Makes three web-services available, so that other NFIS web-based applications do not need to maintain user account information or role information.

The Distributed Spatial Analysis Architecture (DSAA)
was created to allow users to apply GIS/image analysis
processes to distributed spatial data. DSAA currently
consists of a web service engine that interacts with
stand alone image analysis modules.

A GDAS provides a simple standardized way to exchange
attribute information that applies to a well-known geospatial
dataset (a Franework dataset). A GDAS delivers information
in an XML format that can be used in a variety of ways,
including use by models to perform calculations, or visualized
as a web map.
